Davao city with 1.4 million souls and appx 1500 abandoned street children tugged at Pastor Roy Leyva’s heart even as a young student studying engineering in college. As the oldest son of Harvest House Director, Elsa Leyva it was only natural for Roy to have a heart for evangelizing the poor. In 2009 when we made the decision to plant a church in the city, Roy knew his time had come. With his soon fiancé Roxanne, they founded Harvest House Family City Church in a small cramped building in the center of the city. With a heart to minister to poor they started a street kids feeding program that combined sharing the love of Jesus Christ through stories and teaching and then providing hungry children a meal. In 2010 they launched “street kids literacy program” where Harvest House college students went on the streets and taught the kids how to read and write and yes we fed them.
City Church is now located in a large building close to college campuses and they are already looking for a larger facility to handle the exploding growth. Roy holds a bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, is a registered master plumber, and has taken Christian Leadership Training. Roxanne has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and also has advanced training in Christian leadership. They have one child.
