Shadow figures. Garbage kids. Eyes darting here and there constantly vigilant to the ever presents threats. Trust no one. They all will hurt you. From death squads to child abusers, danger is always close. Life is hard for these ragged children that exist on what they can steal and what they eat out of the garbage. In a 3rd world city that ranks as the largest city in the world land mass wise, no one knows how many of these forgotten children actually populate the streets of Davao. The social services department tells us that no ministry has been successful in long term ministering to these abandoned kids. They are wild, they trust no one, and they can be violent.
Harvest House teams are on the streets ministering to the street kids with food, medicine, and the Word of God. From our new Davao inner city center, teams of college kids share the love of Jesus Christ through creative skits and lessons that not only entertain the kids but also introduce them to biblical truths. This ministry that started in the summer of 2008 has made phenomenal inroads into the lives of these abandoned children however, due to limited financial resources, we are currently only feeding a very small percentage of those children that live with hunger on a daily basis.
